The Samsung P2770HD is a mix between a computer monitor and an HDTV. You might remember the 23-inch Samsung P2370HD monitor, which is essentially a computer monitor with a built in HDTV tuner and HDMI input.

Now Samsung have released the larger 27-inch P2770HD, with HDTV tuner and HD connections. Many people don’t want to buy or own a separate dedicated computer monitor and HDTV, when one device can do both tasks. Samsung have realized this an have created the Samsung P2770HD.

The 23-inch model has HD and non-HD models, so it’s not known if there will be a 27-inch Samsung P2770 model, or just the P2770HD model.

As well as being a very capable and attractive computer monitor, the P2770HD functions just as well as a HDTV receiving HDTV signals and HD inputs from HD devices, such as blu-ray players or HD games consoles. This makes it an ideal monitor / HDTV for a bedroom, or office etc.

It features a 1920 x 1080 Full HD 1080p resolution, 50:000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and also stereo speakers which can simulate 5.1 channel sound. The Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD even supports Picture In Picture and Picture By Picture modes, allowing you to view both your computer desktop and TV source at the same time.

There are plenty of connections on the Samsung P2770HD, including many HD inputs, such as HDMI, DVI, Component, VGA, along with TV inputs, Optical Out, Audio In and Headphone out.

If you connect up to an HD device via HDMI you will get Full 1080p HD with Dolby Digital Plus, SRS TruSurround HD, and 5.1 optical SPDIF output!

Sony has launched a new monthly e-newsletter called “3D Vision”, which will cover the latest news in the 3D market with interviews and articles.

Over the past year it has been clear that 3D is very much on it’s way back, with all the major manufacturers getting in on the game.

Sony say we are about to experience a critical progressing though the introduction of 3D technology within the home environment. They also make a very bold statement by saying the expect 3DTV shipments to reach 46 million by 2013, and talk about 3D blu-ray.

Research form GigaOM Pro estimate that by 2013 up to 46 million 3DTV capable flat-panel HDTVs will heat to consumers. They said, “While the initial shipments of flat-panel 3DTVs will be small in 2010 due to premium pricing strategies by the large TV manufacturers, volumes are likely to grow quickly in just a few short years as manufacturers begin to implement 3-D as a standard feature across their HD flat-panel product lines.” As 3D becomes a standard feature with just a slight cost premium in coming years, many consumers will opt for 3Dcapable TVs even if the majority of the content they watch will be 2D.

Sony also talk about 3D and Blu-ray, calling it a technology love affair. The BDA 3D Task Force have a number of objectives, which include Full 1080p resolution per eye, and backward compatibility with 2D players.

This is all very exciting news, it looks like 3D is coming, whether you want it or not!

There has been very little information around about Sony’s latest HDTVs, especially regarding their highend models.

But some very interesting information has now leaked about Sony’s upcoming / prototype HDTVs, including new models in Sony’s flagship XBR range, the Sony XBR11 and XBR12!

A total of nine new series have been leaked with numerous details. There is also mention of the Sony KDL-ZX Series OLED range, but it’s not known which sizes this will come in.

The flagship Sony KDL-XBR12 series features”High Range Advanced LED RGB” backlighting. It’s great to see they are sticking with the local dimming REG LEDs.

The Sony KDL-XBR11 series uses W-LED technology, which we assume to be White LEDs. The Sony XBR will available in fives sizes from 32-inches all the way to 60-inches.

Other new technology found in the XBR11, which will no doubt be present in the XBR11 also includes, Bravia Engine 3 Pro with HD Video processor, UV2 A panel technology, and EMO Brand The Edge Motion Speaker.

LED backlit LCD HDTVs have become more and more common over the last year, especially with Samsung’s vast LED HDTV range.

But until now this LED backlit technology have remained exclusively in large HDTVs and portable devices such as laptops and netbooks. They are favored over standard CCFL backlights as they use less power and provide better colors.

Vizio have now taken the LED technology to their new Razor LED range of smaller LED LCD HDTVs.

The 23-inch Vizio VM230XVT and 19-inch Vizio VM190XVT both feature LED backlights for improved contrast and colors, along with very thin profiles. Both have a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and the larger 23-inch VM230XVT has a full HD / 1080p resolution.

Both models can also be used as a digital picture frame via the USB port. Both of the Vizio Razor LED HDTV range are very energy efficient, and beat the new Energy Star 3.0 ratings by over 50%.

The Vizio VM190XVT will cost $349 and the larger VM230XVT will be $399.

JVC have announced their latest blu-ray player, the JVC XV-BP11, which comes in at just under the magic $200 price tag.

There are a few players available for this price, but it’s always nice to see some extra competition in this price bracket, especially from a brand such as JVC.

The JVC XV-BP11 is an “ultra slim” blu-ray player, and from looking at the photo it almost look “ultra long”, but I’m sure this is just because of it’s super slim design. The XV-BP11 should be available right now for $199.95.

So what do you get for $199.95? As well as playing back blu-ray discs, it can also playback the popular camcorder format, AVCHD along with WMV, JPG, MP3, WMA files via disc or from the USB port.

It features HDMI 1.3 output along with composite, but you will of course want to use the HDMI port. It supports Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital plus, Dolby True HD, DTS, and DTS HD Master Audio/Essential audio formats.

Other features of the JVC XVBP11 include coaxial audio output, cinema zoom (x16), quick loading and parental lock.
